YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB — Born for This

YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB says goodbye to her old self in new single “Born for This”

London-based French-Cameroonian artist YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB returns with her new single “Born for This”, marking a fierce comeback after taking a much needed break to focus on mental health following her second EP, We’re all gonna die anyway,.

The track, co-produced with Song Higginson, explores her personal battles with social media, fame and self-doubt, all wrapped in a stunning indie-rock gem that erupts into an anthemic climax.

“Being a musician, especially in this day in age where it’s all about numbers and fame, it’s very easy to lose sight of our purpose, of the reason why we do what we do. Self-doubt is a massive issue for me. I found myself constantly doubting my path and doing things I never would’ve even considered doing before for the sake of my career instead of for the love of it all, and as soon as it began influencing the way I made music I knew I had to stop and go back to my ‘why’. Why do I make music? I make music for teenage me who made stuff she thought sounded good and believed anything was possible. Who didn’t know what she was doing but knew it was right as long as she followed her heart. This song is a reminder to myself: no matter what the world or my brain thinks, I was born for this.” — YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB

In the accompanying music video shot by Kai, YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB faces off with her own shadow—a mysterious figure who stalks her, only to be revealed as herself in a chilling twist. This visual metaphor speaks to the challenges of identity and self-confrontation that drive her music. Perfectly capturing a Halloween-like eeriness, the video amplifies her raw, introspective rebirth, making her return feel both defiant and profoundly resonant.
