YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB — Average Girl

YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB opens up about imposter syndrome on “Average Girl”

Blending indie and pop with sprinkles of folk, French-Cameroonian singer, songwriter and producer YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB delivers delicate vocals over an upbeat production as she explores themes of identity, imposter syndrome from a woman of colour’s perspective on her new single “Average Girl”.

With its infectious melodies, and introspective lyrics, the London-based artist has not only showcased her talent, she has released her most personal song to date that will connect with listeners. “Average Girl” is the second single taken from her upcoming debut EP I Thought I Knew You, Boy Was I Wrong, which is slated for release next month.

“I struggle with imposter syndrome a lot. Regardless of what I achieve I never feel like I deserve it or like I’m good enough in anything that I do. I’ve always been good at a lot of things but I’ve never excelled at one. I find it hard to love myself and my body and my voice and my life. As a woman, I know I have to fight twice as hard to prove myself, even more as a woman of colour, and it really takes a toll on me and makes me doubt myself all the time. I hope this song can inspire other women to keep fighting and to believe in themselves, and for other people to acknowledge their pain and struggle. Beneath appearances there might be countless deep-rooted fears and insecurities. I just hope this song can resonate with all the (not-so) average girls out there.” — YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB
