Nigerian-born, North Carolina-raised artist Uwade releases stunning new single “(I Wonder) What We’re Made Of”
Uwade has been making subtle yet impactful waves over the past few years. Her soulful voice graced the opening of Fleet Foxes‘ Grammy-nominated album Shore, and since then, she’s shared the stage with heavyweights like Jamila Woods, Sylvan Esso, and The Strokes, carving out her own space in the indie scene.
She’s just dropped her mesmerising new single “(I Wonder) What We’re Made Of”, the second single off her upcoming album Florilegium, set for release in April via Ehiose Records / Thirty Tigers.
The track is a serene, introspective gem, and the accompanying music video perfectly complements its gentle vibe. “(I Wonder) What We’re Made Of” reflects on the beauty of friendship—touching on themes of gratitude and unwavering devotion, all wrapped up in Uwade’s rich, emotive delivery.
“Romantic love gets a lot of attention so when I was workshopping the project that would turn into ‘I Wonder,’ I wanted it to take on a different shade. It was about affection, gratitude, and devotion. Who better to dedicate it to than the people who have carried me through my life: my friends. “This past summer I took a Latin class where we translated Cicero’s 2000-year-old treatise on friendship, De Amicitia. In it one of the characters claims that a friend is an alter idem–another of the same kind, a second self. This is what this song is all about; since we’re cut from the same cloth, I wonder what we’re made of.” — Uwade.
