Top 100 Songs of 2020: 1

These are our favourite songs of 2020 — at number 1 is “Thinking Too Much” by Tom Did It.

The emo rap genre has become so popular in music, that many new artists see its success and attempt to create similar songs to capitalise on it. However, 17 year-old artist Tom Did It released one of the most impressive and refreshing songs within the oversaturated genre. Written during the start of lockdown where he felt a disconnect to the people around him, Tom bares his soul over a hard-hitting trap-infused production and delivers infectious vocal melodies throughout the emotionally-driven “Thinking Too Much”. The song garnered attention and support from both sides of the Atlantic, and caught the attention of several major record label A&R’s. Although the song itself was written after Tom found out that his nan had unfortunately been diagnosed with cancer, for many listeners (especially this year), you can interpret this song your own way.

“In terms of my headspace when writing the track, the day I recorded and wrote it I found out my grandma got diagnosed with cancer and had a lot of things going on in my head at the time and the first thing that came to my head was that I was thinking too much (this was the idea I wanted to use for the hook), I thought this was a good topic to continue writing the song to as I know it’s a very relatable subject matter. Writing the song was the best healing process I could’ve had at the time because it was a great way to let my emotion out, I feel the song wouldn’t be what it is today if I didn’t have that stuff going on in my life at the time”Tom Did It.
