Boston-based artist Timi O shares new single “THREAT”
Timi O, born Olutimileyin Ogunjobi, draws inspiration from his Nigerian heritage, anime and the importance of male vulnerability. Since his debut back in 2020, he has refined his sound to push boundaries of the rap genre— occasionally blending genres to create a sound he describes as free-form.
Accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Sabrina Roberts, his latest offering “THREAT” is an immersive experience that does not let one hide from the intense emotions of the Boston-based artist. Timi O’s persona is set up to be almost supervillain-like, rapping over Space Oddesey-esque synths, hard-hitting drums, and samples of his own live performances. His words, on the other hand, portray him as a man who is simply trying to beat the odds. This paints an image reflective of a daily struggle that he and many like him can never escape. Being yourself is the most dangerous a black man in American can do.
It’s refreshing to hear a captivating rap track with a lot of substance. Although the song is quite short, Timi O instantly grabs listeners attention with his deep rapping vocals which perfectly matches the solid production.
