It’s been almost three years since I first watched Brixton-based singer, songwriter and producer Santino Le Saint stun an open mic crowd with his soothing vocal abilities, outstanding guitar playing skills and his infusion of R&B with soul and alternative music to near perfection. It was the most memorable and standout performance on a cold night at one of Brixton’s well known venues The Ritzy, despite Santino not being a headline act.
Fast forward a few years later, he’s become one of the most sought-after artists on the planet. Every single record he has released in the past two years have been breathtakingly amazing, and have even drawn comparisons to the likes of The Weeknd, Frank Ocean and Prince. His latest single “Bullet With My Name On It” is arguably his best release thus far.
“That iconic idea – of engraving someone’s name into a bullet – and what is says about destiny, finality & an obsession that exists somewhere between love and hate, mesmerised me. I went to my studio late that evening and produced the track myself. The hook and melodies came first, then the lyrics came to me – lyrics about being so excited to be in love yet scared of being hurt. I think a lot of people have that war going on in their heads” — Santino Le Saint.
It’s a beautifully written and emotionally-driven record that once again showcases Santino Le Saint’s mesmeric vocals and captivating production — as a listener you instantly connect with the track. It’s not long until the rest of the world wakes up and realise they’ve been sleeping on a potential superstar.
