Her latest offering “Free” is a stunning lo-fi R&B track with elements of soul that instantly draws you in, and you enter Rio’s world and go on this magical journey. No wonder she’s often compared to Amy Winehouse— they’re both breathtaking vocalists.
Rio is a queer artist in recovery from addiction and the poetic content of her songs paint an R&B journey through codependence, spiritual death, rebirth and renewal. If you look past the numbers and buzz, “Free” is an excellent track built over a captivating production well worth a listen.
