San Diego star… presenting 22 year old Norii’s newest release “Vow to You”.
Waves crashing at the disco… Norii is an artist pursuing her kid dream, and what she presents to us today is an incredibly unique, head bopping, and very lyrically impressive track. She wrote the whole track herself, lyrics, chords, melodies, and produced it alongside Supperclub Sounds. Norii’s lyrics are unabashedly self-reflective, weaving her experiences with heartbreak, depression, eating disorders, and a semi-dysfunctional family, into an ongoing story of her life.
“Vow to You”, is a love letter to herself in the most difficult moments, it is an anthem to a depressed best friend, the vow to stick by them (and herself) no matter what life throws at them next. I can’t help but picture Norii and her best friend dancing off all their problems on a rooftop as “Vow To You” blasts during sunset. Oh, also did I mention, she can hit those notes?
The melodies she weaves through the song as the production climbs just melt you. Particularly the production changes in the first minute of the song really caught my attention, this artist is doing something so true to them, unapologetically creating music that will make you move – regardless of the subject matter.
“‘Vow To You’ was born in the midst of one of my infamous depression benders. Absolutely sick of the self-pity I couldn’t claw my way out of, I was determined to write a happy song. I spent hours with writer’s block because my fake joy felt so inauthentic. Something shifted once I remembered that cliche advice everyone’s heard: talk to yourself like you’d talk to your best friend. My best friend has got that whole mental stability thing down pat, so I decided to reverse the roles. I began writing a song as if the person I loved most in the world was in the same dark, glitchy space I was in, and writing lyrics flowed pretty simply after that. “Vow To You” is a love song to my best friend, and also to myself in a way. Most importantly, we can dance to it” — Norii.
