22 year-old Miami native Nia Ray has always had the passion to sing and perform, she started playing the guitar in 2010 and began taking vocal training a few years later in 2013. Fast forward two years later in 2015, Ray started working on a degree in music production, where she finally started to experiment with her own music. After generating a buzz and teasing upcoming music on her Instagram, the newcomer has finally dropped her debut single “Faded” — a contemporary R&B club banger infused with a bouncy hip-hop production, staying true to her city Miami, also known as the 305.
“As my first song I wanted to release something on the fun side before diving into all of the emotions and sad shit, so this song is a bit more surface level, with a beat hard enough to jam to it in the club or a smooth vocal performance to just relax and listen to in your room by yourself, wherever you prefer to get “faded” really” — Nia Ray
She’s already drawing comparisons to the likes of Jhené Aiko, Erykah Badu and Aaliyah, although she has only released some snippets to the public. With a strong debut that also features a catchy hook, we’re really excited to hear more from Nia Ray.
