Berlin-based, Dutch-born audiovisual artist Liza Dries releases new single “Nightcore”
It’s our first time posting Liza Dries, and she absolutely deserves the attention— she’s dropped one of the standout releases of the week. Her new single “Nightcore” is a hyperpop gem, drawing inspiration from Owl City’s “Fireflies” while weaving a fragmented story through quirky observations and self-reflections. The song cleverly questions the sincerity of love and happiness— blending playful energy with deeper self-reflection.
The accompanying music video, directed by Luna Grüsgen, perfectly complements the track’s vibe. It fuses early 2000s aesthetics with Dries recurring theme or warping and questioning reality— creating a visual experience that’s as nostalgic as it is thought-provoking.
“I’m trying to break away from the search for adrenaline rushes. Falling in love—or close to it—is the greatest high I know. It pushes both happiness and sadness to their extremes. There’s always a part of me that mirrors the traits of someone I’m into. It might be their accent, rituals, or even non-verbal quirks. When that connection ends abruptly, it causes a mental earthquake, forcing me to recalibrate my sense of self. Who am I really?” — Liza Dries.
