London-based singer-songwriter Laurel Smith shines on new single “Candy”, a transatlantic collaboration with Detroit producer Moflo Music.
If you were to take 30 minutes of your time to listen to Laurel Smith’s releases in the past year, you’d notice a significant improvement in vocal ability, songwriting and production selection. The 17 year-old singer-songwriter born and raised in North London, and inspired by acts such as Charlie XCX, Lana Del Rey, Trippie Redd and The Weeknd, blends pop, hip-hop and electronic music to create her own unique sound.
Her new single “Candy” is an outstanding collaboration with Detroit producer Moflo Music— a collaboration recorded during lockdown. The song was inspired by a character named Hailey and her daughter in the movie The Florida Project. Laurel was moved by their relationship, especially the things Hailey did to provide for her daughter whilst residents of a motel. The vocal performance and guitar-driven production effortlessly match, as Laurel draws listeners in with an infectious hook. We’re predicting big things for Laurel Smith.
