In honour of International Women’s Day, we’ve compiled a list of female artists you need to know.

If we keep it 100, the music industry has never treated women kindly. Women have always been under pressure to look and dress a certain way, and at times write and sing songs they weren’t comfortable with. However, in recent years we’ve seen a little (only a little) improvement— we’re now seeing more independent women using their singing or rapping abilities to create the music they like. But there’s so many amazing women who make great music that go unnoticed. Some of these artists are on the verge of mainstream success, and others are still hidden gems.
