London-based indie pop artist maphe shares emotionally-charged new single “insecure”.
Born in Somerset and now based in London, singer-songwriter maphe (pronounced mayf), enjoys creating a wide range of music and has even collaborated on tracks for TV and film in the past— and now settling into her own specific brand of lo-fi pop. Her latest offering “insecure”, is the follow up to debut single “fire”, a single which garnered support from BBC Introducing and made it through to the longlist for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition. The emotionally-charged “insecure” was written during the first lockdown of 2020, and lyrically, it’s about her inability to trust herself with regards to her taste and choices and brain, a sentiment many listeners will be able to relate to, especially during these trying times. maphe delivers a gorgeous vocal performance with infectious melodies which effortlessly match with the brilliant production.
“I’ve always been a very self-critical person, but during this period of isolation I had so much time on my own to think that my feelings of inadequacy reached record levels. It was a very quick writing process for me, I wrote and recorded it spur of the moment in a 20minute rush after being inspired by an instrumental sent to me by my producer” — maphe.
