7th Obi — replace me

Irish-Nigerian artist 7th Obi unveils visuals for new single “replace me”

Accompanied by a cinematic music video shot by Karl Chiketa, Essex-based, Irish-Nigerian artist 7th Obi kicks off the new year with “replace me”, an emotionally-driven genre-blending track with elements of indie, soul, trap and R&B produced by Canadian producer BeatsbyCarrp.

Obi adopts the perspective of an ex-lover and sets a new bar for vulnerability. The lyrics speak to how mental health and trauma can play huge roles in communication breakdown between two people. What happens when you don’t feel like you can’t replace them?

“A song like this, for those who know me, isn’t a surprise. This one is for the black kids that love indie FIFA music, listening to The Script, Arctic Monkeys etc. I want to show that black kids don’t have to only be boxed into hip hop and R&B.” — 7th Obi.
